Immediate Dental Implant Placement Case Study: Optimising Results for Patients
In this case study, we explore the immediate dental implant placement for a patient with a fractured upper right canine that was beyond repair. Our approach focused on preserving buccal bone and achieving optimal prosthetic positioning.
Procedure Overview
The damaged canine root was carefully removed using atraumatic techniques to maintain the integrity of the surrounding buccal bone. Subsequently, we placed a dental implant in the ideal prosthetic position. To address the buccal gap, known as the jumping gap, we utilised a carefully crafted mixture of particulate bone graft and Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF), also referred to as “sticky bone,” to promote healing and integration.
To ensure proper healing, a custom healing abutment was fabricated, effectively sealing the socket and supporting the surrounding soft tissue.

Results and Observations
After a healing period of four months, we obtained an Implant Stability Quotient (ISQ) reading that indicated optimal osseointegration. Notably, there was minimal to no change in the thickness of the soft tissue, highlighting the success of the immediate placement technique.
As a comparison for bone preservation with immediate implant placement versus a delayed approach, you can see in this case in the upper.
A comparison of the preserved bone volume in the upper right canine area versus an older implant in the upper right premolar site illustrates the advantages of immediate implant placement. The premolar site exhibited the typical buccal bone volume loss of a delayed implant placement, emphasising the importance of timely intervention and an appropriate protocol for predictable immediate implant placement.
Conclusion
This case emphasises the benefits of immediate dental implant placement in preserving bone volume and enhancing aesthetic outcomes. If your patients are considering dental implants, our advanced techniques can provide them with the best possible results.
